I like taking empirical phenomena in deep learning that practitioners find puzzling, distilling them into toy models to analyze theoretically, and saying something useful about the phenomena “in the wild.” Ideas from neuroscience and cogsci often inform the phenomena I find interesting to study in the first place, even if I don’t work in those fields directly. I recently graduated from Harvard College with an AB in mathematics and computer science, and grew up mostly in Abu Dhabi and London.
